Study Sustainable Ocean Farming in Sitka Alaska!

If you are a student interested in aquaculture and mariculture, we invite you to enhance your studies with a field-based program in Sitka, Alaska! Join us for this semester intensive program in the Fall Semester of 2023 offered by the University of Alaska Southeast-Sitka Applied Fisheries program.
Sitka is a stronghold for Alaska aquaculture. Its pristine waters and protected coastline offers diverse and abundant marine and terrestrial life ecosystems, which provides for ideal aquaculture and mariculture industry growth. Through this program, students will learn about and experience Pacific salmon hatcheries, seaweed and shellfish hatcheries and farms not only in Sitka, but also in the greater Southeast Alaska region.
Our program offers hands-on, practical, and occupational training. Students will learn skills such as skiff operation and maintenance, mariculture farm design, hatchery work, cold water safety, fish pathology, and more! These skills will be enhanced through completing an internship with industry partners in the field.
