The Time is Now

The increasing demand for skilled professionals in fisheries and marine science, aimed at discovering innovative methods for cultivating ocean species for food, has led to a proactive response from the Applied Fisheries Program at the University of Alaska Southeast, Sitka campus.

Through strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, the program has meticulously crafted a field-based semester intensive initiative. This program is tailor-made to provide students with the essential occupational training needed to seamlessly transition into the aquaculture workforce or pursue further education.

Covering diverse aspects, from mariculture farm design to skiff operational and maintenance skills, students not only acquire practical knowledge but also establish meaningful connections with industry professionals, gaining valuable insights into the life of a sustainable ocean farmer.
